Hybrid car is a type of a car that has many advantages especially for environment. A hybrid car integrates an electric motor and gasoline engine to provide sufficient power to the vehicle with least fuel usage and fewer emissions. The hybrid sports utility vehicles (SUVs) are high performance vehicles that are compatible to using two distinct sources of power- the gasoline engine and the electric motor. This provides a fuel efficient source of power. The pathway of energy for the Hybrid SUVs can vary to wide extents. This depends upon various conditions and demands of the driver. Usually it is the electric motor that provides most of the momentum while driving at lower speeds despite the engine revving.

Size- One thing you can see just from looking at these cars is the fact that the SUV is larger than the other cars. But lets take a look inside. Not only is the hybrid SUV smaller inside than original SUV so are all the other Hybrid models. The reason behind this is the fact that smaller vehicles can run better and more fuel efficiently on a smaller engine, which is one of the many ideas behind the making of any hybrid vehicles.

The top two hybrids that are SUV’s on the market are the Ford Escape Hybrid and the Mercury Mariner SUV hybrid. Both of these SUV hybrids have a high fuel economy rating or 30 miles per gallon driving on city streets and a whopping 34 miles per gallon when driven on the highway.

A simple system is involved in the Hybrid SUV setup. No rotating belt is there as in case of conventional Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). There are simply two electric motors and a gas engine that is permanently linked together using a planetary gear set. The Ford Escape – It is available as a FWD or 4WD unit. The 2WD gets 31 mpg in town and 36 mpg on the highway; while the 4WD gets 29 mpg in town and 33 mpg on the highway with a cruising range of 400 to 600 miles. Base price is $26,900 US.

Cost-While you will still see that fact that SUV’s will still cost you a few thousand dollars more than many of their counter partners the sedans and compact cars even though this is the age of hybrid vehicles.
